Shadyrest Bible Church provides the following statement of faith. It is not exhaustive but serves to provide you with a simple but definitive basis to help you determine where we stand as it relates to religious beliefs.
The Bible:
We believe the Bible is the pure Word of God in the original languages without error of any kind; that the Bible is complete and is the Divine and final authority for the Christian faith; that it is God’s revelation to mankind for His ways among the matters of mankind; that through the Bible, the peoples of the world will find the light of Jesus to give them eternal life, hope and direction for life’s concerns and challenges.
God:
We believe that God is One, revealed in three distinct persons - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit; that these three are One from eternity past to eternity future; that by God, all things were created, exist and in Him have their purpose and are sustained by the Word of His power; that He is holy, loving, personal, just and interested in and has the solution for every single facet of human life.
Jesus Christ:
We believe Jesus Christ is the God the Son who took on Himself the form of a servant in the person of Jesus; that He was conceived by God the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; that He is true God come in the flesh; that He experienced temptation at the hand of Satan and in the daily experiences of human life yet without sin in any form; that He took on Himself the sins of the world and died for all mankind; rose bodily the third day from the grave, ascended up into Heaven, sits at the Father’s right hand as the only mediator/intercessor for mankind and one day is coming again to rule this earth as He promised.
Holy Spirit:
We believe the Holy Spirit is the the third person of the Godhead; co - equal in all power from eternity past to eternity future; that He authored the Scriptures and used holy men to write them; that He points people to Jesus as God’s only answer for man’s sin condition; that He enables those who trust in Jesus as personal Savior to overcome sin and glorify God; that He indwells the believer at the moment of salvation and bestows gifts upon the believer to enrich and bless other believers as they impact the world for God.
Man:
We believe man was created in the image of God on the sixth day of the literal six days of creation; that he was designed to have fellowship with and find his purpose in oneness with God; that, while being created perfect, he fell into sin of his own volition thus being destined to the penalty, power and curse of sin; that he cannot save himself but needs a perfect Redeemer.
Sin:
We believe sin is missing the mark or breaking the law of God; that all mankind are sinners and thus are guilty before, in need of a Savior; that as a result of this sinful condition, mankind is rendered spiritually helpless to please God and remains in the darkness and deception of sins power under the control of the spiritual enemy, Satan; that sin is the root cause for all problems that exist today thus causing all creation to groan till Jesus returns as the Solution.
Salvation:
We believe that God’s remedy for sin is in the person and completed work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary; that salvation cannot be earned or enhanced by heritage, good works, church membership, baptism, or communion; that salvation is through faith alone in Jesus alone; that salvation cannot be lost once received as it is a free gift on God’s part; that salvation is instantaneous and not progressive and that only Jesus is not only needful but the only sufficient One to bring us to God.
Heaven, and Hell:
We believe Heaven and Hell are real places; that Heaven is the everlasting conscious bodily residence of those redeemed and born again by the power of the blood of Jesus Christ; that Hell and the eternal Lake of Fire is the everlasting conscious bodily residence of those who have not been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ and whose names are not written in the Lambs book of Life.
The Church:
We believe the Church is a worshipping body of born again Christians who have trusted Jesus as their Savior; that the Church is not a denomination, and began at Pentecost; that the two ordinances of the local New Testament church are Baptism and Communion; that the two officers of the local church are Pastor and Deacons; that the supreme task of the church is to bring the gospel of Jesus to people and as God saves them, to glorify God and advance the gospel cause to all the world.
The mission of SBC is to reach the unchurched and unreached with the gospel and train them to become followers of Jesus Christ.
Satan:
We believe Satan is a real person in the spiritual realm; that he is God's enemy and man's as well; that he above all things, is a deceiver and a devourer of people’s souls and lives; that he is constantly involved in the distortion of who the Godhead is, especially the person and work of Jesus Christ; that he encourages the things of the self life so that marriages, morals and matters among the peoples of the world are distorted and destroyed; that his end is eternal conscious damnation and punishment in the Lake of Fire.
The End Times:
We believe in a coming one world order/government/religion headed up by one known as the Anti-Christ and that his spiritual power will be a one world, ecumenical religion; that Jesus Christ will come back to this earth for His people and establish His eternal rule; that there will be a 7 year time of tribulation on this earth after the believers are taken up to heaven, and then He will return to begin that rule on earth for 1000 years; that Satan and all unbelievers will be judged and cast away from God forever, and that then God will create a new heaven and a new earth for the believers in which they and the Godhead will live face to face forever.
Human Sexuality:
We believe that God created intimate sexual activity as a beautiful expression of love between a husband and a wife in the bonds of marriage; that all and any sexual activity outside of marriage is fornication in its action and thus condemned as sin before God and outside His bounds of acceptable morality; that the guidelines and absolutes of purity and the trueness of human sexuality can be found within the pages of the Bible.
